International Conference on Academic Recognition and closure of the Rec-Mat project

4 October 2021

After four years of collaborative work between Higher Education Institutions and networks in Latin America and Europe, the Erasmus+ project Rec-Mat has successfully concluded its activities. On 22, 23 and 24 September 2021, the final event of the project was held online i.e.  the International Conference on Academic Recognition. It gathered over 100 participants daily. SGroup was responsible for the practical organization of the event.

On the first day, the official opening and presentation of Rec-Mat took place, followed by a Roundtable with valuable contributions from different stakeholders, including representatives of the EU Delegations to Brazil and Argentina, CONEAU, and the Rec-Mat consortium’s member and associate member institutions. They provided a comprehensive overview of academic recognition in Latin America and the EU, followed by a great and interactive discussion.

Day two represented an opportunity to share four of the outputs of the Rec-Mat Erasmus+ Project, namely the MOOC, the Guidelines for Academic Recognition of Studies and the pilot mobility cases, the IT Training and the Digital Interactive Compendium. They were presented in a practical way, in order to engage the participants to use them in their own institutions. Additionally, in the first two days, cultural moments were provided through virtual performances of two academic music groups (“tuna”) one from Portugal and another one from Colombia.

The final day was dedicated to a Roundtable about the impact and results of the project in the participating Higher Education Institutions, as well as its potential to create institutional, organisational and political change. Afterwards, the Rec-Mat Conclusions Paper, a document summarizing the most important findings and results of actions that took place during the project’s life cycle, was presented. After a brief session in which synergies with two related projects were explored, a summary of the event was given through the presentation of the graphic recordings of the event. Ms Eva Valle Casanova, Rec-Mat project officer at EACEA, made the official closing speech.

The recordings of the event are now available on the project's Youtube page and all Rec-Mat tools and conference resources can be obtained here.
