Blended Intensive Programme on Doctoral Supervision – Universitat Rovira i Virgili, July 7 to 11, 2025

From July 7 to 11, 2025, the Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Tarragona, Spain, hosted a successful Blended Intensive Programme focused on enhancing doctoral supervision practices. This short-term mobility experience brought together a diverse group of academic researchers, primarily from the Aurora Alliance, who were either supervising doctoral candidates or preparing to do so in the near future.

The programme followed a hybrid format that combined a rich in-person learning experience with a complementary virtual component. During the week in Tarragona, participants took part in a range of interactive workshops, roundtable discussions, and collaborative exercises. These sessions addressed essential topics in doctoral supervision, including effective communication, intercultural understanding, research ethics, and strategies for supporting doctoral candidates throughout their academic journey.

Before and after the in-person activities, virtual sessions allowed participants to prepare, reflect, and continue exchanging ideas. This blend of physical and online engagement encouraged active participation, peer learning, and the sharing of diverse perspectives among academics from different countries and disciplines.

Throughout the programme, participants strengthened their supervisory skills, deepened their understanding of best practices in doctoral education, and formed valuable international connections. The experience fostered a sense of academic community and highlighted the benefits of combining face-to-face interaction with digital collaboration.
