TTIDE - Think Tank For Innovative Doctoral Education

Area of Interest and Expertise

Doctoral education is the foundation for the future of research and innovation and in providing its innovators and leaders. The SGroup’s Think Tank for Innovative Doctoral Education brings together experience and vision from across the members of SGroup in order to strengthen and enhance the experience of and opportunities for PhD students in the areas of research culture, researcher development and social impact.

Objectives

The SGroup TTIDE was created to stimulate dialogue and learning around and engagement with doctoral education within the SGroup network and the wider HE sphere. It aims to position the SGroup as a forum and an engine for innovative thinking and joint activities in this critical area of HE endeavour and to provide opportunities for creative collaboration and development to PhD students.

Priority Areas of Focus

The TTIDE is currently focusing on engaging leadership, academics and PhD students throughout the SGroup member institutions to jointly shape a framework for complementary innovative doctoral education which will prepare researchers for meeting future together. Societal partners will be at the heart of this, and TTIDE activities will involve them in working towards solving the challenges of today and tomorrow.

Events and Activities

Over the last few years, SGroup has invested considerable effort and resources into developing the collaboration among its members at the Doctoral level. The TTIDE, The SGroup Think Tank on Innovative Doctoral Education, has been the driving force of such efforts.

In this framework, SGroup has fostered the following initiatives:

- SGroup PhD Cup, an initiative that started in 2021 and has proven to be very successful over the years.

- BIP - Blended Intensive Programme on Doctoral Education created in 2023, this BIP is organised by a different member each year.

- Repository of the PhD Traineeship Offers launched in 2024 to enhance the collaboration among SGroup members at research level. 

How to join the activities of this Think Tank

SGroup will continue to develop initiatives that can actively strengthen the existing research collaboration within our network.
